A search for the sanity in insanity.
A multiyear project in which art and the world of psychiatry meet. The performances Istanbul, Message from the Other Side and Poetic License, the installation Echoes of Istanbul, a documentary, podcast, and several Insane Evenings (Waanzinnige Avonden) together form the search for a universal story rooted in Michaël’s personal experience.

In his youth Michaël Bloos had, in addition to a mother, three alternating fathers, two of whom were bipolar. After one of his fathers lost his mind in Istanbul, sank into psychosis, and went missing, Michaël went there in search of his father – and ultimately in search of himself and reality. Because Michaël never wanted to end up like his fathers: he didn’t want to go crazy, to lose touch with reality; he wanted to know what is real and what isn’t. Still, or perhaps because of that, he went into theater to find a way to deal with reality. In 2019 he started Universe of Madness.

Poetic License will premier this year at the Over het IJ Festival. It is a performance about madness and normality and everything in between – based on the unusual life of the British writer Orton. The compelling performances Istanbul, Message from the Other Side and the installation Echoes of Istanbul are also on view.
